Oregonians Can Check Radiation Levels Online

Radiation monitors in Oregon have not detected any health risk from the plume that recently reached the West Coast from Japan’s damaged nuclear reactors.

But concerned residents can track the radiation levels themselves online, if they would like to get added assurance.

"We do not expect any reading above normal. This will be a way for people to see the levels on a day-to-day basis," says Gail Shibley, administrator of the Office of Environmental Public Health, Oregon Public Health Division.

The latest radiation levels recorded by the Environment Protection Agency’s monitors will be posted daily on Oregon’s Public Health Web site.
