What Happens When An Illegal Immigrant Is Injured In The Workplace?

Francisco Martinez, an illegal immigrant employed in Texas, was injured in a work place accident.  He fell from a roof and broke his neck.  He was taken to a branch of the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston where he remain paralyzed from the chest down.  The hospital has provided required emergency treatment at no cost and would now like to release him to be returned for continued treatment in Mexico.  A spokeswoman with the Mexican Consulate said the Mexican government is ready to assist with the transfer and will provide treatment in Mexico.  The family of Mr. Martinez is fighting to keep him in the U.S.
