New Mining Safety Laws In India Target Managers

Mining Weekly reports that a new mining safety law, scheduled for parliamentary approval in India at the end of this month, will significantly increase the fines and the duration of incarceration of managers for violations of safety norms and when there is a loss of life through negligence in the mining sector.

Ontario ski-resort wins appeal: Guest drowning not a workplace accident

An Ontario Court Of Appeals ruling reverses decisions by the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) and Divisional Court, which found that a 2007 drowning of a customer at an Ontario ski-resort fell under the Occupational Health and Safety Act as a death incurred by a person at a workplace.
